I’m going to do my list a little different then my brother’s
previous list, which I agreed with largely; I’m excited about all of those
games. However, I’m going to go with what games I’m most excited to see more
of, which may not end up being the games I’m most excited to play this year.
For instance with Final Fantasy XV I’m in a lather over that game, but we
pretty much know everything we need to know, so it isn’t something I’m super
excited to see more of at E3. With that out of the way let us begin without
further ado.
Zelda U
Even though I’m absolutely devastated that I now have to
wait another year to get a hold of this game, I’m still extremely excited to
see more of the title. I’m a huge Zelda fan (which is perhaps an
understatement) and we haven’t had a new title this entire generation, so I’m
foaming at the bit to get some more information on the latest iteration. The
game looks beautiful and the series obviously has a critically lauded history,
so I can’t see this as being anything less than the game of E3 for me. I’ve
gone so far as analyzing and breaking down a 10 second clip at the end of the
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD trailer in my fervor to see more and my
body is ready.
Sea of Thieves
This one nearly tops my list as one of my most anticipated
games to see more of at E3. We’ve seen a trailer which gave us a very vague
idea of what to expect and for those of us following the Twitter channel we’ve
got little glimpses of art and music, but we still don’t really know what this
game is. I’m really enjoying the art style and I think that a game where you
can play online and man a pirate ship with your friends is incredibly
intriguing, so I’m stoked to see what all ties it together. I think this could
be a complete return to form for Rare and I can’t wait to see what that might
look like in its entirety.
ReCore
We really have seen nothing more than a trailer here and a
vague idea of what the game is, even more vague than Sea of Thieves. I think
that Xbox did something smart in showing something, saying it’s coming next
year, and then go dark for the remainder of the year. This sets them up to have
an exciting E3 full of games that are (allegedly) coming out this year. With
developers who helped to create Metroid Prime behind this title as well as the
creator of Mega Man Keiji Inafune this is something to be excited about. Add to
that a very cool background idea of a robot whose core can be transferred into
different types of robots to help our main protagonist survive in a desert wasteland
and they may have a hit on their hand. It also doesn’t hurt that in a Verve article the game director Mark Pacini talked about the thought behind the game
saying:
“ReCore, at it’s heart, harks back to a different era in gaming and trying to put a new spin on it, based on games that myself and Inafune-san have done in the past that aren’t really being done anymore.”
He goes on to mention inspirations such as Zelda and Metroid. Yes, please.
Horizon Zero Dawn
We saw enough of this at E3 2015 to get me extremely excited
about the concept of this game. In a post-apocalyptic world where our own
technology has defeated us and plunged us back into a tribal culture, the
hunter Aloy seeks to help her clan survive in a land roamed by mechanized
horrors. In the trailer they showed our female protagonist take on what was
essentially a giant robot T-Rex with a bad ass bow and arrow at her side and
some technological tricks up her sleeve, seemingly stolen from the same robots
she hunts. After an explosive ending to the trailer and a great background set
up we have a potentially stellar new IP on our hands here.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Is there anyone that loves games that isn’t excited about
this? Long rumored and all but confirmed at this point, if Red Dead Redemption
2 is announced it will surely be the
talk of the show. With the critically adored second game in the series being
one of the best games of the last generation, I’m eager to see a new game set
in the franchise. We don’t exactly have a world brimming with games set in the
Wild West and Rockstar is unparalleled in making open world games so there is
no doubt this game will be good. The only question is how long will we have to
wait before we get our hands on it? Could this be one of our surprise Fallout 4
style announcements that will release this year? I’m hoping the answer is a
solid yes, but I guess we will know in less than a month.
There you have it folks, my most anticipated games to see
more of at E3 2016. Which games are you most excited about? Let us know in the
comments below.
If you are not excited about Red Dead Redemption 2 than you should just throw your console out.
