Video game movies as a whole are usually sub standard fares at best. The less we have to talk about that Super Mario Brothers movie the better. However when they first announced the Assassins creed movie I was very intrigued at the potential of this movie. The framework of the Assassins Creed universe is one that lends itself to a myriad of potential multimedia options. A person in present day through a tool called the Animus can access there ancestors genetic memory's allowing them to see the world through there eyes. We have already seen novels, comics, and even short films for this world. The ability to travel throughout history and the world gives us a pretty wide array of options to choose from. In the games we have already been to Jerusalem, Italy, Rome, Boston, New York, and many more. Now it looks like the movie is going to take us to Spain during the Spanish Inquisition.
A couple of things about the trailer that stood out to me. They are using a different Animus setup in the movie from what we have seen in the past. Very cool idea that looks like it suspends the person in midair so there body mimics whats going on while they are in the memory. Also the action looks fantastic and the set pieces are epic in scope just as you would expect from something that carries the Assassin's Creed name. All in all the trailer has piqued my interest in the film and so far it looks like it has lots of potential. However we could have done without the Kanye. That music did not fit the tone of the trailer at all in my book.
Lets hope come December this movie finally can break that video game movie curse that has plagued us forever. Let us know what you think of the trailer and if your planning on going to see the movie.
